This design was inspired by the writings of a very special person who is working hard on behalf of community gardens in Chicago. LaManda Joy wrote a thoughtful piece for Green Woman magazine's Summer Issue (coming soon!) and this illustration will be accompanying it. Like me, Joy is interested in America's history of gardening during times of hardship. She provides us with a realistic perspective of what happened back then, and where we can go today. I hope this print represents the vision, hope and legacy of urban gardeners.
